Every individual has a unique size, shape, and configuration of their nose. There are many factors to consider that contribute to the uniqueness of ones nose. These factors include an individual's gender, age, and ethnicity. The internal structure of the nose consist of a hard bony portion and a soft cartilaginous portion. The nasal bones (gray color) is located at the top portion of the nose and is shaped like a pyramid. It forms the bridge of your nose. It accounts for the upper third of your nose. The lower two thirds of your nose is made of cartilage. The cartilage gives form and shape to the tip of the nose. There are two paired cartilaginous structures, the upper lateral cartilage and the lower lateral cartilage. The upper lateral cartilage connects the nasal bone to the lower lateral cartilage. The lower lateral cartilage is shaped like a twisted "C" and has three descriptive areas: the outer portion (lateral crus), the middle portion (dome), and the inner portion (medial crus). There is one unpaired structure, the septal cartilage. The septal cartilage is usually in the midline and divides the nose into a right and left side. Also important to the anatomy of the nose is the overlying soft tissue. The overlying soft tissue consist of skin and fat.. The texture and thickness of the skin and the amount of fat in the nose is unique in every individual. Some people may have thick and oily skin, while others have thin and dry skin. Some people may have a fat bulbous nose, while others have thin narrow nose.
